Letter to the Editor published in the March 21, 2008 edition of The Flume.
Dear Editor:
As the guy who placed Lynda James’ name in nomination for District 2 Commissioner, I am obviously biased.
Notwithstanding, I would like to amplify on my support for her. Having known her for over 10 years now, beginning when she and we wrestled with the USFS over the proposed “Big Union Exchange”, I can say that she is high on the list of people Park County should be proud of. Smart, passionate, loyal, and scrupulously honest, Lynda has maintained her commitment to Park County, whether in elective office or not.
Her significant knowledge of natural resources and recreational issues, coupled with her experience in county government, make her someone who won’t have to learn anything on day one, but rather hit the ground running.
Combine knowledge, experience, and capacity with the ability to effectively communicate and the commitment to do what is right for the people of Park County in a collaborative and productive manner, and you get what I have seen in Lynda James.
If you don’t know her already, call her up, and see if you agree. Pretty sure you will. Even if you’re Republican.

Why Lynda James deserves your support for Park County Commissioner
Water. It’s the lifeblood of the West, and where Lynda James began looking out for citizens of Park County fifteen years ago.
Her involvement with county organizations is impressive and more extensive than most can imagine. She has worked with watershed protection, historical preservation, the County Land and Water Trust Fund Board, Vision 2020, United Mountain Communities, US Forest Service, a Statewide Water Supply Initiative and more.
In the mid 90s, Lynda was president of Save Park County , a group that fought for open, fair government, and organized the effort to oppose pumping the South Park aquifer dry. She helped form the Park County Water Preservation Coalition and edits that organization’s newsletter.
In 1998 all Park County Commissioners were recalled and Lynda was elected to fill one of the vacant seats. Ask yourself why anyone would put themselves through the fight and scrutiny where so many neighbors know each other and friendships sometimes win out over skills and experience.
Eventually you will come to see what I have learned about Lynda and why I support her as the next Commissioner from District 2: Honesty, Integrity, Fairness, Openness, and Approachability.
She helped “open” government as Commissioner from 1998-2000. She proposes meetings outside of Fairplay to better involve more citizens and NOT modifying public agendas after they have been legally published.
While I’ve “only” lived in Park County 10 ½ years, roads have deteriorated as more experienced employees have left or retired, and I’ve discussed with friends the increasing number of new and replacement taxpayer-funded vehicles. Building better roads without raising taxes is a priority for her.
Putting people over political party, I believe Lynda will help me (and everyone) develop a better understanding of hiring, training, and management practices here and add balance to the Board.
Lynda James deserves your support.
